Drains and clogs are a normal part of life. If one of your sinks becomes blocked, you can normally unclog it using a plunger. Simply place your plunger over the drain and pump it up and down multiple times to work whatever is stuck out of the pipe.
The same protocol works well for blocked toilets. Be careful not to flush your toilet more than once, or you might flood the bathroom.
If the handle isn't working properly, lift the toilet cover and check to see that the chain is still attached.
If your home loses power, first see if your neighbors have lost power. Sometimes temporary power outages occur when lines are downed. You can always call your utility company to see if the outage is widespread or if there is a problem with your account.
Assuming the utility company verifies everything is fine, locate your circuit breaker and reset it to restore power.
The protocol for hot water outages varies based on your home. If you live in a condominium or apartment, you may have a communal boiler or hot water heater. Contact us for help.
If you home has a private hot water heater, check the thermostat to see if the settings are correct. Reset the tank settings and wait 15 to 20 minutes to see if the water heats again. You may also need to relight the pilot light.
If you're having problems with your HVAC system, the first step is to check your thermostat settings. Assuming everything is set correctly, you'll likely need to make an appointment for repair.
Please note, while we know Los Angeles is a very hot climate, air conditioning is not treated as an emergency problem. We will dispatch help as quickly as possible, however.
In dangerous situations, call 911 for immediate help.
